Bestowing Praise Upon Him Who Honors The Gods

“First, tragedies were brought on stage to remind you of what can happen, that these happenings are determined by nature, and that what moves you in the theatre should not burden you on the larger stage of life.” – Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 11.6

Everybody loves a free spirit, but few dare to become one. There’s one creative artist in particular who stands out above all the rest, whom most of us can only dream of emulating. Tempest winds can tear the canvas right off the mainmast, and a siren’s song can lure even the deaf down into the denizens of the deep, but a free spirit sails on into the darkest night and uncharted horizons where only dragons dare to fly.

As your Philosopher Muse and Keeper of the Flame, it is my solemn duty to inspire, raise up and reveal those who are worthy of acclaim and endless fame. Let’s press our hearts together in solidarity to welcome director and writer Mike Flanagan to the world stage. This Michael didn’t just row his boat ashore, but made a dynasty out of gruesome gore!

The following fan mail was sent to Mr. Flanagan during the summer of 2025. Each letter can be interpreted as coming from the perspective of one of the Three Fates, those who appear before the beginning of a significant transformation. They carry a genial tone and a gentle boldness in honoring the recipient, while also expressing a desire to illuminate the lightning-fast changes that Uranus so bewilderingly enacts while residing in midheaven.

Part 1 of 3: Hill House put the fear of Jesus into me! Every ounce of blood you shed in its creation was well worth your descent into hell. Immensely enjoyed all your films to date and can’t help watching them over to discover new connections. Mike, I’d love to be a part of your writing team. It would be my fervent pleasure to embellish your stand alone monologues that you lack the time to develop. Could you send me sections of your writing that you would like discreetly expounded upon?

Part 2 of 3: Hey Mike, I’ve been receiving some nifty feedback on The Life of Chuck and glad to hear that you are bringing fresh perspective to Carrie. The original (1976) is my mom’s fav movie of all time. I can’t wait for The Exorcist however. Curious—what do you have in mind for Pazuzu!? I am hoping that you will embellish his character all the more and reveal his contribution to the American culture. Now in regards of Midnight Mass, the holiest of grails, I’ve been playing out multiple come backs in my head. It would be super wicked if you could at least create a video game based on the show. Got tons of ideas if you need to have your imagination sparked. Keep up the excellent work and a tight leash on your energy and time!

Part 3 of 3: One final fan mail if I may be so bold Mr. Flanagan. You don’t need me to remind you that this film project (Carrie) is going to be another success and yet there is much more to be achieved should you keep your eyes pierced. Your time is now – The Four of Swords – a card of temporary peace that represents regrouping, refocusing and a space for trouble shooting that can save you and yours a shit load of unnecessary headaches. The following card reveals your Hierophant – a mentor of sorts, someone who lies at the heart of the Industry – who will aid you in making excellent choices. The Knight of Swords – direct and decisive – a much needed energy for things to snap into place. A New World manifests in the forth position which highlights success in all areas of your life. Whereas the final card – who puts me in mind of Kate in her celebration dress – has something to do with a particular kind of success that you are to share with the entire world. The Empress also symbolizes the torch bearing lady in Columbia Pictures. Wherever you may land, it could be said that you have found The Great Good Place. Both Fortune and Fortuna shines on you Mike. A one in a century sort of thing.
